Buick tell me that isn’t a beautiful
24th January 2011

his 1Riviera, again heavily modified, shows the same kink. Anyone who tries to tell me that isn’t a beautiful car can just leave. Now. These were muscle cars, proper ’60s sport coupes with a luxurious side as well. If we were back in the ’60s right now, I’d be standing in a Buick showroom, drooling over a Riviera or a Wildcat.
But we needn’t go that far back to find things of beauty from the Buick lineup. The late-1960s were kind to Buick as well, although they had already started to lose their position as the highest-end of luxury brands, as that spot was snapped up decisively by Cadillac. Still, despite their slip in stature, they were still highly-regarded, and still beautiful:

, unveiled at the North American Auto Show, is a Vauxhall/Opel Insignia VXR/OPC based car for the United States. It is the first sport-oriented Buick in quite some time and it is a successor to Buick’s Gran Sport heritage.
Even though this car looks exactly the same as the Opel Insignia OPC, it isn’t identical. The engine for instance, has been replaced with a 2.0-litreo explore the appeal of a high-performance variant of the Regal,” said Craig Bierley, product marketing director for Buick. “Like the Regal, the Regal GS is based on the award-winning Opel Insignia, and we believe it will reinvigorate Buick’s storied Gran Sport legacy.”
The engine sends power to all four wheels through the six-speed manual transmission. The four-wheel drive system is adaptive and to further avoid the loss of power, an electronic limited-slip rear differential is also present on the car. The car should get from 0 – 100kph in about 6 seconds. Even though power was important for Buick, they haven’t forgotten about handling. It has four-wheel independent suspension and a High Perf four-cylinder turbocharged unit. While the 2.8 V6 on the Opeance Strut system is there to reduce torque steer and maintain negative camber during cornering, therefore improving grip and cornering abilities. Brembo brakes should also slow the Buick down quickly and precisely. All the performance mechanical bits of the car are harnessed by clever chassis technology (Interactive Drive Control System) which further helps stability and grip. It has three mode settings: normal, sport and GS , each of them offerin adaptive all-wheel-drive system, the Buick Regal GS show car is a high-tech, high-performance version of the brand’s newest sport sedan. It was introduced at the North American International Auto Show.
The mechanical elements were developed with the aim of delivering a driving experience that is sporting, confidence-inspiring and refined. It has a performance-oriented drivetrain, a lowered body and lower center of gravity. Exterior and interior cues include two additional vertical front air intakes; large, forged aluminum 20-inch wheels and performance tires; a racing-inspired sport steering wheel and metal pedals. as announced that there will be a four-cylinder model of the entry-level Buick LaCrosse
It will be engine with 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. This engine is already used in the Chevrolet Equinox and Terrain. With this engine, the car will get 30mpg on the highway and 20mpg in the city. These figures aren’t official though, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) still has to confirm them.
The engine will be matched with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing starts 5, including delivery, whic less than the V6 equipped model. The car will be on dealer floors sometime in the first quarter

a car just like this was seen in August by the media when General Motors gave the media a tour of its design studios. The only difference is that it was a sedan rather than a hatchback. This presumably is what we’ll be getting instead of this in North America, as sedans are apparently more popular here. I prefer hatchbacks to be honest, but sadly the marketing department often has the last say. It should still be called the Excelle though.
The North American version should have a 181hp 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder engine in it. The Chinese version, and the European one, also gets a 138hp 1.8L engine, but chances are we won’t get it. If we do get it, it will probably be paired with a hybrid system.
Here’s the full press release for the Chinese Buick Excelle (In English):
revamped Buick Century hit the showrooms with a bigger, more ergonomically designed interior and a roomier trunk, all wrapped in smooth, flowing sheet metal that Buick stylists hoped would have a long shelf life. It appears they got their wish, as the current Century enters its ninth, and final, year of production.
The 2005 Buick Century still stacks up nicely when it comes to offering room for five and plenty of trunk space, but the aging design and lackluster interior leave much to be desired, especially considering what kind of cars can be had for the same money. If you’re looking for nothing more than a comfortable and reliable American sedan with few bells and whistles, the Century will suffice. However, a better overall value can be found in Buick’s new 2005 LaCrosse, which replaces both the Century and the departed Regal. In fact, the Buick Century will see only a short production run for 2005 to make room for the LaCrosse.
The Buick Century is offered in several trim levels. Standard equipment includes remote keyless entry, manual dual-zone air conditioning with air filtration, programmable power door locks, power windows, automatic on/off headlamps with daytime running lamps, a tilt steering wheel and a theft-deterrent system. The Custom package adds a power driver seat, cruise control, rear-seat assist handles and floor mats. The Limited package builds on the Custom features with leather seating, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and chrome wheel covers. The new Special Edition is the top-line Century this year, and boasts dual-zone automatic climate control, 16-inch touring tires mounted on chrome alloys, ABS, traction control and a tire inflation monitor. Additional options include the OnStar communications system and an upgraded CD/cassette stereo.
The Buick Century is powered by a 3.1-liter V6 that makes 175 horsepower. With V6 family sedans like the Honda Accord and Nissan Altima now making at least 240 hp (and their four-cylinder versions making at least 160), this Buick is certainly on the short end of the power spectrum. Fuel economy, however, is good for a V6 with a rating of 20 city/29 highway. A smooth-shifting four-speed automatic transmission puts the power to the pavement through the front wheels, and traction control is included with the optional ABS.
All Century models come with four-wheel disc brakes; ABS and a side-impact airbag (for the driver only) are optional. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Buick Century four stars (out of a possible five) for driver-side front-impact protection and three stars for front-passenger protection. Side-impact tests resulted in a three-star rating for both front and rear passengers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Century an “Acceptable” rating for in frontal offset crash testing.
Inside, occupants will find easy-to-use controls, inoffensive styling and plenty of room up front. The seats are more like couch cushions than car seats, so don’t expect much in the way of firm support. The quality of the cabin materials could be better, but overall build quality tends to be better than average. Trunk sp
