    Regal 2012 Buick

    1st May 2012

Sport GS, but the time to remove the name in 2004, his retirement was a fulfillment of the image of the old car had become the driver car at the age of retirement. That all changed when a newborn Buick Regal concept was presented at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. When the Regal was reintroduced in the Buick dealership in 2011, most road testers expressed surprise, pleasant surprise. Typical comments in this quote from Road and Track: “Regal has been balanced, confidence-inspiring and fun to drive”.

As mentioned, the 2012 Buick Regal GS will be available only with a 6-speed manual transmission when it hits showrooms in second half of 2011. A 6-speed Aisin automatic will be available later. You can also equipped your Buick with 19 or 20 inch wheels and metal-covered sport pedals. Whatever rims you decide to get, will come with 14-inch ventilated disc brakes with four-piston fixed Brembo calipers in the front and 12.4-inch ventilated discs with single-piston sliding calipers in the rear.

In the front of the Regal GS are MacPherson struts, coil springs, a direct-acting stabilizer bar and hydraulic ride bushings. In the rear is multilink independent setup with stabilizer bar. It also comes with Buick’s new Interactive Drive Control System (IDCS), which is a driver-adjustable damping and steering assist system.

The 2012 Regal GS gets pretty good fuel economy, 19 city / 27 highway mpg with the six-speed manual transmission. The GS also will have an optional “GS” drive mode. This mode tightens the suspension and steering for a sportier feel when motoring and cornering.

At launch, the new Buick Verano will offered with a standard 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine delivering an estimated 177 horsepower (132 kW) and 170 lb.-ft. of peak torque (230 Nm), with a six-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. GM says the basic Verano will return a 0-60 mph [96 km/h] performance of 8.0 seconds and an estimated 31 mpg [7.6 lt/100km] on the highway.

The Detroit automaker said a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo engine will be offered in the future. In China, the Verano’s twin sibling is available with a naturally-aspirated 1.8-liter producing 145HP and a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-pot delivering 181HP.

The 2012 Verano compact sedan will receive its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week and go on sale in the States in the fourth quarter of 2011. Pricing has yet to be released, though an allegedly official document that was leaked online suggests that the Verano will start at around $21,000.

Buick? First, it isn’t gray. Second, it has a manual transmission. Third, it isn’t a boat. The Regal GS breaks a lot of Buick stereotypes.

While the Buick Regal GS is Buick comfortable, all the other features seem to fly in the face of what you’d expect from Buick. The engine and gearbox (both German-made) typify this, and give a hint as to the car’s Opel origins.

Whatever, the GS is a BMW 3-Series or Mercedes-Benz C-Class fighter. The size is about right and the performance fits right in.

Power with the turbocharged four is very good. Howeve3r, economy was less than what I expected at 20.8 mpg. As a comparison, my wife’s 2001 Buick LeSabre (gray, automatic transmission, boat-like) gets more than 30 mpg on the highway and averages 20 mpg around town with a 3.8- liter V6.

The 6-speed manual transmission is nice. We kept the car in 5th a lot, but 6th is quieter. The engine is very quiet.

But, the Regal is a fun car to drive. It is a nice size at just under 16 feet long. The engine and transmission work well together when you’re trying to extract performance from the car. The accelerator and brake pedals are ideally positioned for heel and toe drivng.

has been a sensation with journalists and the public alike, even though it’s still months away from going on sale. Based on a stretched version of the platform that underpins the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the car — at least on paper — has the looks, technology and, likely, the performance to set the compact car segment ablaze. With Dodge virtually absent Asia, the Fiat Viaggio (click here for more news on the car) will represent the Dart in China.

The Viaggio, which in Italian means journey, is a rebadged Dodge Dart (see gallery below) and will be the first model from Fiat’s 50:50 joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group. Similar to the Dart, it measures 4,670 mm long and 1,830 mm wide, which is about the size of the new Ford Focus Sedan. The sedan will be powered by locally-built normally aspirated and turbocharged versions of Fiat’s 1.4L engine.

Fiat is pinning a lot on the Viaggio and hopes the car will help boost its sales in China to 300,000 units by 2014, compared to the measly 1,500 sold in 2011. A hatchback version is said to be on the table and might be exported back to Europe as a Bravo replacement.
